With L&L blossoming into something beautiful, I feel it’s important to thank all of the wonderful vendors that have helped us along the way. These special people are full of talent and passion; they create amazement and happiness. At L&L Events, we strive to collaborate with the best people we can so we can make your event the best it can be. Today, I’d like to introduce you to a brilliant artist and designer named Andrea Casey.
Andrea specializes in chalkboard designs, using non-toxic and environmentally responsible mediums. Using her vibrant creativity, she creates one-of-a-kind works of art for her clients including wedding and event signage, menus, ceremony programs, table numbers and photography backgrounds. These items really make each event memorable!
Recently Andrea and I worked together to create a custom sign for L&L Events and I am beyond thrilled. It really captures what we are all about. From the minute we started working together, I knew she was a gem! I look forward to working together with for years to come. I hope you enjoy learning more about her and her many talents!
1. Tell us a little about yourself and your business:
I started my business sort of on a whim – I quit my job, was down and out, and realized why should I not TRY to make a living on my own? So I did! With the loving support and help of my darling boyfriend, my mom and dad, I jumped! Everybody is SO right when they say how hard it is to make a living by starting your own company – but every challenge has ultimately lead me to the most fulfilling life I ever could have imagined. I do what I LOVE for people who actually want my work featured in their special events or in their personal space or to help advertise their own businesses – and I am so so thankful!!
2. What inspired you to get your start in your business and industry?
I’ve always seen myself as being an artist ever since I was a little girl. My mom had Crayolas in my hands since day one and she taught me everything I know about drawing and design. So, I didn’t quite know exactly how I’d earn a living or doing what exactly – until a few years after graduating art school. I was approached by Rachael Ray Magazine to design their “Specials of the Month” chalkboard page and after that I had this idea to meet with local event planners, shops, and restaurants to offer chalkboard lettering and illustration services. I started following and contacting high end wedding planners and eventually got lucky!
3. What’s your favorite thing about your art and signage and how do you differ from similar vendors?
My favorite part is getting to know each client’s vision and style. Some projects are more challenging than others, and I prefer the challenging ones. I put my all into each board and I push myself to include as much individual client personality as I can in each design. From color matching, to researching what type of plants or unique illustrative elements, to offering DIFFERENT fonts and not the “typical chalkboard fonts” that everybody uses – that’s where I shine the brightest!
4. What is your favorite project to work on for weddings?
Probably welcome signs – Their minimal text allows extra room for me to add the personal touches that define each couple (like I was describing before). I think aesthetically, the welcome signs offer a perfect harmony of hand lettering and personal accents in which some other boards just can’t fit.
5. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to drive to new hiking spots in here in Connecticut and take day-long adventures in the woods with Ronnie (my boyfriend). Or visit my parents and their dog Eli Leroy (my other brother haha) and go out with everyone on my dad’s boat…and me and my mother love antiquing together!
6. Just for fun! If you could collaborate with any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?
Great question! I’m thinking very hard and I think it would be Tupac. He had such a strong message of freedom and equality for all people that I would have just loved to made hand lettered visuals to compliment his voice. He was a brilliant poet – I even have a book of his poems in his own handwriting and they’re so beautiful.
